Ronnie Ackling is a digital photographer from Birmingham, England. His work explores the quiet tension that exists between structure and emptiness.
Ronnie’s images often probe the overlooked spaces of the urban landscape — where architecture,
atmosphere, and solitude meet.
Origins explores photographer Ronnie’s evolving relationship with his home city, Birmingham. Having moved to Worcestershire over a decade ago, he continues to make regular pilgrimages back, drawn by the city’s constant transformation. Through his images, Ronnie searches for traces of nostalgia and belonging — a dialogue between memory and change.
This series reflects on his early experiences growing up in Birmingham and how these continue to shape his identity today. As someone now observing from a distance, Ronnie captures the city with both intimacy and detachment, offering a fresh and deeply personal perspective on England’s second city.
Origins is as much about Birmingham’s transformation as it is about Ronnie’s own — documenting the shifting relationship between person and place, past and present.
The 'Origins' exhibition will be on display in The Hive, Worcester from Sunday 9th to Saturday 21st March 2026. The Hive is open to the public 7 days a week, from 8:30am - 10:00pm
